Current Information:
Age-23 74, Lorrimore Road, Kennington On 2nd May, 1916, 24th London of 142 Brigade, 47th Division, moved into the front line trenches near Souchez to the north of Arras. The Battalion Diary entry for 5th May records that it was a quiet day until 7.15pm at which time an artillery and trench mortar demonstration was opened up on the enemy lines in front of 47th Division. This inevitably resulted in retaliation and the artillery duel lasted for over an hour until things quietened down. It is likely that this resulted in the death of William Robinson. |
